Notices that have been sent via the US mail for preapprovals or "invitations" to apply for a Discover More Card allow new applicants the ability to redeem their offer online by visiting the designated url, www.mydiscover.com. Upon arrival at this web address they will be instructed to enter the specific reservation code enclosed with their letter. This will align them with the card that they have been prescreened for where they will be prompted to fill out their personally identifiable information (social security number, D.O.B.) and confirm their address and other information obtained by the bank. Once this has been completed and they submit their request for the offer, a hard pull will be performed on their credit report and they will be notified, just as they would be if they apply via the offers above, as to whether or not they have been accepted as a new cardholder.

Almost every large financial institution uses direct mail as a means to expand their customer base. Some, like Discover purchase a vanity web address (mydiscover.com) to direct traffic to while others will use a subdomain on their own website. An example of this for those not familiar with domain terminology would be the Capital One preapproved mail offer which may be redeemed at application.capitalone.com (this is a subdomain, where www.capitalone.com is the root domain). Another alternative employed by other issuers is a specific extension of the root domain. American Express typically uses this method for their business card offers, www.open.com/extension, or for their regular offers, www.americanexpress.com/extension. The point is that yes, mydiscover.com is a safe web address owned by Discover Financial Services where they facilitate their direct mail business for new account holders.
